As I was cruising through blogland the other day, I stumbled upon a post in which the author apologized for including several pictures that week. Then went on the assure the readers that it would not be turning into one of those fluff and picture blogs. (Huh???)
I must say, I took it a little personally.
Now, I realize that I will not be the recipient of a Thinking Blogger Award any time soon...and I'm OK with that. I think there is a place and purpose for both types and one is not more or less important than the other.
I admire those who are able to articulate their thoughts and put them in writing, adding a dash of wit and humor. All the while chronicaling their day, pondering the social ills, and debating parenting styles.
Sadly, I don't possess that talent. But that wasn't my intent when I started my blog. I wanted a place to share pictures of my garden, spark interest in lovely old fabrics, and perhaps, inspire creativity (my own and that of others) with a DIY project. Looking at beautiful photos or making something with my own two hands is mood altering, it makes me feel good. (And much less expensive than a therapist, I would imagine.) I LOVE seeing all the beautiful home and garden pictures, lovely paper collages, and sewing projects on other blogs, and I can only hope that when others visit my page they feel a little better, too. :)
So, my fluff and pictures blog will continue as is, unapologeticly. Here's some pictues, just so a newcomer won't be confused. LOL
I love fluff and pictures!!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up if you want to.
You can do what you want!!!!
Rosemary
:) Thanks Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why I felt the need to justify my blog content...PMS maybe?? LOL
I take some stuff waaaayyy too personally.
Wonderful photos - especially the lovely lab!
ReplyDeleteBring on the fluff and pictures! I found your blog in a very round about way and it is very lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love fluff! Pile on more fluffiness!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I enjoy pictures... its like my own blogzine.
I have friends who think decor magazines are "Fluff", too- one of them is addicted to "American Idol". Well, I love a decor magazine or a tea magazine and consider reading them my R&R time... but, I consider all reality t.v. "Fluff". I say this, acknowledging I am addicted to TNG and Voyager Star Trek reruns. LOL
So I guess we all have different opinions on what makes fluffy.
Fluff and Pictures!! Some people want everything to be so wordy and psudo intellectual. We can get all we want of that from the newspaper. Let's have some eye pleasing and fun things!
ReplyDeleteKimberly, I love "fluff & pictures"!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a writer of deep thoughts and feelings, just what I'm thinking about at the moment which is usually "fluff"....LOL.
By the way, sweety, your package will be on it's way by noon today! Enjoy!!!
Marilyn
Fluff and picture blogs are my favorite! I love to visit blogs that inspire me to run up to my sewing machine, get out a can of paint or do something creative with my kids. Blogging and blog reading is down time for me...not a time when I usually want to read anything too deep. My blog is definately a fluff and pictures blog...heavy on the pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteWell I don't think its fluff and it certainly makes me think! I love all your photos and your projects really inspire me and get me thinking about doing the same in my home!
ReplyDeleteKarla
Your dog is so cute! Yes, I've encountered those types of blogs too.
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't like the word "fluff" that implies "lesser than" or "not important" which to me just goes back to some people thinking that taking care of your home & yard is not as important as doing some other things. Don't get me started on that!
Manuela
Yes, you all are exactly right.
ReplyDeleteTaking care of a house and family is important.
And it was probably the percieved implication that those things are frivolous that made me a little defensive.
I like pretty things: homes, gardens, flowers, fabrics, and cutie-patootie children and pets.
I'm like you, Darcy, this is my down time. The rest of my day is filled with the serious stuff.
Ok, I'm stepping down off my soap box now. LOL
Thanks everyone!!!
YAY for fluff and pictures!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I am too!
:)
Beautiful photos - especially your gorgeous lab!
ReplyDeleteKeep your blog just the way it is, it's just my style. Blogs with out pictures, BORING!
ReplyDeletexxoo,
suzy
I think all your lovely photos are just perfect! =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute puppy dog! What's his name?
Hi Jessica!
ReplyDeleteThat's my sweet Ubu.
My husband named her. I wanted to name her Penny, because she was a beautiful copper brown color when she was little.
Kimberly :)
Here's to fluff & pictures! LOL, that's what you'll see at my blog too. Some blogs I visit are very deep & almost morose & don't make me want to stay. Do we really need to know all the gory details in one's life? Don't think so! Life is hard enough without wallowing in our despair. I wish I could write all flowery & cute, but I just have to be me.

Horray for you.. Keep up the fluff. I love it!

I love your blog just the way it is! I've never considered any of the homemaking/craft/decorating blogs "fluff", unless fluff means inspiring, motovationional, informative, and relaxing. And a blog can be all of those things without a single word and through pictures alone! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteKimberly, Your blog is lovely! All the photos are so gorgeous, and I enjoy reading all you write about! I started my blog because of so many lovely and inspiring blogs that I had visited. I wanted to share my love of home, family, decorating, sewing, gardening, etc. I especially love the photos of how ladies decorate their homes, plant their gardens, what they are sewing, cooking, creating, what they found at the flea market or antique store, and of course the pictures of their family and pets! I find these type of blogs so very cheerful and uplifting! So keep going just as you have been, and I say the more pictures the better! Your dog is so cute!!! Blessings, Paula
ReplyDeleteBring on the Fluff! I love Fluff! Fluff and peanut butter makes the best sandwich ever, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWho could complain about that pretty flower or that adorable pup?
I sometimes glance at 'Thinking' type blogs, but they make my eyes cross with all their words. We have enough to think about and deal with. When I blog hop, I want candy, not medicine. So you just keep on doing what you're doing, okay?
i like it the way it is! i'll never get a 'thinking' thingie either...don't care! i like the pretty pictures!
ReplyDeleteI think your blog is great! I wouldn`t call it a fluff and pictures blog at all. Fluff and pictures are those beautiful, yet sterile feeling blogs where you only see stage set pictures and no real person behind it all. I`m guilty of looking at those though LOL Love seeing the things you`ve made and am always watching for more :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
tea
xo
Hmmm . . . A picture is worth a thousand words! And I adore your photos. I just found your blog recently and it is beautiful and very inspiring. I suppose mine will continue to be a fluff and picture blog too, as photography is my passion, right after my family. xoxo
