Ok...this is probably not a big deal to anyone who has been sewing for any length of time, but for me, this is BIG. I've learned to machine embroider! I knew there had to be a way to do this, but even after reading my sewing tips manual (I have a middle-of-the-line Viking) I still wasn't getting the results I wanted.
Then, one day while visiting the Four Friends and a Blog blog, Katherine posted this wonderful tutorial. I don't know if it was the pictures, the step-by-step instructions, or the see through satin stitch foot, but it all made sense. I was embroidering appliques!
This cute bag was my first project after learning my new technique. Although the curly ended leaves were probably a touch ambitious, they still turned out pretty good. They're suppose to mimic the leaves in the fabric on the front side of the bag. So, a big "Thank You" to Katherine! She shares lots of fun projects on her solo blog as well. You should go visit her at Sew Me Something Good. :)
I hope to get back into the swing of things in a couple of weeks, or so. I've been completely bogged down with inventory, taxes, and year end paper work. ugh...I hate paper work.
I also have some pictures of the living room to share, as soon as I get the last pillow finished. And the kitchen sink and granite counter is scheduled to be installed at the end of the month. There have been so many delays, though, I'm not getting my hopes up.
Have a great week, everyone. See ya soon!
Wow, that applique turned out perfect! I'm going to have to check out her tutorial and give it a try. Beautiful bag! xo, suzy
ReplyDeleteHi Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteGlad you posted today. Love the bag, you did such a nice job. How nice to learn something new.

So beautiful! Looks great. I'm going to have to check out that tutorial - though first maybe I should buy a sewing machine LOL!

ReplyDeleteOH! This is great Niesz!! It turned out just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel about your very first attempt and that it succeeded. Because 2 days ago I made my ever first French Knot (embroidery) And I jumped around my livingroom :)) I had been trying to make those little stiches for a very long time, and finally I made it. Fun isn`t it?
I am looking forward to see more of your "new" creations!
The bag is lovely!
Speaking of inventory, I am supposed to be working on my books for my meeting with my book-keeper tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI love your embroidery Kimberly ~ so pretty.

Kimberly, the bag is great! Thanks for passing on the tutorial ~ I have a middle of the line Viking also, and I am sure I should be able to do this sort of embroidery. I'm heading over to check it out!

I love your beautiful bags, the leave pattern is a bit like Eucalyptus leaves too, which we can find everywhere here in Oz. I often wish I could make my own bag, but my sewing is not that good yet.
ReplyDeleteJust clarifying, when I said "which we can find everywhere here in Oz" in my last comment, I didn't mean the pattern, I meant Eucalyptus leaves, in case you think I meant your leave pattern is common, haha! No, no, no, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow that's amazing. do you need a special computer program to do that?
