My Dining Room ~ Spring

Just thought I would share some pictures of my dining room. For spring I wanted to add a little color, so I brought out a vintage yoyo quilt in lovely pastels to adorn the table.

As you can see, the room is pretty sparse. The house is very small and looks cluttered when I bring too many things into the space. I also like how select pieces stand out when there's not a lot of little things competing for attention. That same idea is carried out in the adjoining living room. See more photos of that room here. Or you can tour the whole house and yard on the website, here.

I'm not sure how to describe my decorating style. Maybe "Clean Line Romantic" or "Contemporary Vintage"? ...Whatever it is, this is it. LOL

I would really like to find something for the wall under the mirror, though. (any suggestions?)

The brown lump you see in the foreground is my dog, Ubu. She refused to get out of the shot.
And here's another peek at that beautiful yoyo quilt. Its made with some of the prettiest 1930's fabrics I've ever seen. Oh! To have that in yardage!
Well, I hope you've enjoyed the mini tour. Don't forget, you can still sign up for the giveaway until midnight (EST) tonight, Saturday19th. (Just leave a comment on the previous post) I'll be back tomorrow night to announce the winner.

  3. What a pretty yo-yo quilt. It does give your lovely "soft" dining room a touch of spring. I also have doggy dears turning up in my photos. I think they just like being near "mum".
    HAppy spring to you, Angela.

  4. I love your yo-yo table cloth! How sweet?

How about a decorative shelf below the mirror (i.e., attached to the wall --the kind that looks like it has crown moulding on the bottom of it)? It might add some visual "weight" to that side of the room. At the same time, it would help to keep the floor opened up.

  5. That quilt is so beautiful, love the colors. Have you every thought of hanging teacups underneath the mirror. You could get like an iron piece that has four or five hooks on it and hang some vintage teacups. Just a suggestion.

  7. Your dining room is beautiful and of course it wouldn't really be home without a sleeping dog would it?

  8. Thanks for stopping by! Please let me know if you get friends together for a design hop. If you have photos and want to share your experience, please let me know. I will dedicate a whole blog and eventual site to this concept.

LOVE the yo you quilt. I like the shelf idea below the window. I can't tell by the photo have much space you have between the wall and table, but I have an idea. My mother had a dining room with limited space. She really wanted a buffet for serving. She put a 10 inch shelf on the wall with decorative brackets. The 10 inches seemed enough to accommodate most serving plates. Being able to put a few beautiful goodies on pedestal platters on the shelf that quests can look at while dinning and then be brought to the table during dessert is a fun and functional idea.

Show us what you end up deciding to do!

    Happy decorating!

  11. It's very beautiful! What about a shelf under the mirror maybe with all white creamware or something like that. It would look beautiful and still give you the clean look that you like. It also looks fine the way it is too!

  12. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
I really like the idea of a shelf.
I would love to have a buffet size shelf, but I'm not sure if there would be enough room.

Ooohh...and the white creamware with a few pretty floral teacups would look pretty, wouldn't it?
I'll have to look around and see what I can find in the way of a long shelf.

  18. I like clean line romantic! I just love that yo yo table covering! I think you have room for a nice long shelf under that mirror. I can't tell if it has to be a narrow one or if you could do one with some depth in which case it could act as a sideboard. Your dining room looks lovely (love the chairs)!

  25. Hi! Your blog is wonderful! I love your weekend projects!
I noticed your dutch door...I am so jealous! I would like to find one. Can you point me in the direction you took? Also, I don't know what climate your in, but i'm wondering how the seal between the top and bottom door is holding out the wind, elements etc...
I'm so excited to have found someone with this door! I've been waiting to see it in a cottage!
