Tree Hearts

How great is that!...Heart shaped tree logs. :-)
We had to have a very large ash tree taken down this weekend. It wasn't dead or diseased, but it was somewhat of a hazard. A few limbs had fallen during some recent windy weather, one of which went right through my car's windsheild. It also towers above the house almost 3-4 stories tall and is on a slope that has been satururated with water run-off for the better part of the year. The anxiety of it crashing into our bedroom during the next big storm was just getting too overwhelming, so for peace of mind, hubby agreed to have it taken down.
We have friends who can use the firewood and we'll keep some of the stumps to use as seating around the firepit. Hubby also had the tree guys keep one section longer so he could use the wood to make a rustic outdoor bench.
Anyway, just had to share the awesome naturally heart shaped tree pieces with you. Wouldn't they be pretty as side table tops? :-)

  1. It's always sad when a tree has to go, but I would terrified of falling branches too. We had a large box elder tree once and we had the same fear, and so we also had it removed. And the heart shaped pieces of wood-that is so cool!! I've never seen anything like that before:)

  2. Those are perfect!!! They would be amazing as plate chargers... and with Valentine's Day coming up, they'd be perfect. Slice them up about maybe 1.5 -2 inches thick. How awesome would those look with clear glass plates?! So glad you could find so many great uses for the wood.

  4. It's always sad when a tree has to be removed -- I love the Lorax and I help him speak for the trees -- but yes, at times it's quite necessary. How perfect that it is heart shaped. :o) Looks like Hunny was very interested in the goings on.

  5. Those are sooo cool! I think a nice thick slice would be neat as a trivet or mini pedestal on a tabletop too.
