I made Hunny a new mat for her food and water bowls. I used the Amy Butler Laminated fabric, a different print for each side.I found the fabric very easy to work with. Although you can't press directly on the laminated side, I was able to iron the seams somewhat flat using a pressing cloth. I laid the two pieces right sides together, sewed, then turned right side out and topstitched. After topsitching, I applied seam sealant to the stitch holes, because I read that water could get in through the holes.
Hunny likes her new mat, but wishes there was food in that bowl. LOL

Lucky Hunny. Abby has boxer jowls and quite a sloppy drinker. I've never heard of seam sealer...is it a "paint" on liquid?
Although I think there are others specifically designed for outdoor fabrics,I just used Fray Check.
Since its called a seam sealant and I had it on hand, I thought it might work for this project. I'll have to test it out for long term effectiveness.
I like those dog bowl mats. The laminated fabric is so pretty, and perfect for that type of project. I use some old shabby chic place mats for my cat's bowls.

I have some sheets of vinyl laminate that you apply to fabric with an iron yourself.
I think its available at fabric stores and online. Would something like that work for your project?
Honey is dream ~ what a beauty!!! I made Teddi 2 mats from oil cloth last year and they are awesome! I just run them under water to clean ~ great idea about the sealer!

BTW, you can also use seam sealant sold in camping supply stores to water proof seams.
