Counters and Cabinets and Tiles, OH MY!

Well, the kitchen is FINALLY getting done. Its probably more of an updating rather than an all out remodel. The room is tiny, will always be tiny, and short of a 2-story addition there's nothing that will change that.

So this week we have picked out the granite for the counters, installed the new oven, mounted the microwave above that, started to remove the old bead board and skim coat the walls, and we're now shopping around for the perfect glass tiles for the walls.

Here is a picture of our granite sample and one of the glass tile options we were considering.

We have a honey oak colored laminate wood floor, and I thought the colors in this tile combo would tie in those warm tones. I also have sea green and ocean blue paint colors in the kitchen and living room so it would work with that, too.

The tiles that hubby and I liked the best, though, are in a line called Beach Glass. We like the 2x4 inch tiles and would use a combo of green, blue, and sand. But, of course, the sand color doesn't come in that size. :( So, we're trying to think of a way around that.I'd show you more pictures, but honestly, there's not much to look at right now. We'll be out looking for a new sink this week, as well. I thought it was about time to retire the 60's avacado green one. :)

All the tiles are beautiful. I love glass tiles. I'm hoping to redo our bathroom in the near future and use them. I think all of your choices would work with your home. Personally, I like the top photo - sounds like it would blend in with the rest of your home while still marking the kitchen as its own space.

Thanks so much for your input!
Karla, I really like the top one, too. I think it will also be better for resale because it won't lock new owners into a specific color scheme.

We liked the running brick pattern of the 2x4 tiles, though.

hmmmmm...still kickin it around. :)

Oh how fun! I am totally in a kitchen mood these days, dreaming of a country kitchen, a bit vintage/french style. I really liked the tiles you and your hubby have picked out. So natural, soft and fresh colours. Would fit great with your wodden floor. Fun isn`t it? I mean, making all those decisions. I have been checking out your shop today. I so loved your monogrammed linen! Yes, i am totally in love with monograms :)
But i have a Maestro card, so it is for me not a possibility to buy something :( Yes, later next year when i will get an Norwegian bank account i will go for a Visa Card. Then i have much more options!
Anyway, good luck with your choices! Warm greeting from Aina (",)

Those glass tiles are gorgeous! I'm looking forward to seeing progress photos.

I have a decor board friend, from Iceland who is building a new home. While that home is under construction, they are renting a home with a small kitchen. That kitchen is amazing! The kitchen at our lake place is small. I find I do more special cooking there and enjoy it more, than I do in our larger kitchen here.

Your new kitchen is going to be wonderful!

Bless you heart! Redoing a kitchen is so exciting, but so....messy. We started ours almost a year ago and still aren't quite through. Your granite is very similar to mine. Wish I'd thought of glass tiles. They are so pretty!

I love the new background on your blog- its beautiful!

I like both the tile choices. I am going to be redoing my bath in the spring (my retreat!) and want a spa theme- that one icy blue color would be lovely in that room as well.

Oh lucky you. It's all just wonderful! I always go with a pretty neutral base and then add splashes of color in inexpensive ways.
