Vintage Fabric Gift Tags ~ Put Scraps to Work

I know I've mentioned before about my inability to throw away even the smallest pieces of vintage fabric. Because of this, I'm always looking for ways to use these little scraps in projects.
Recently I've started using my tiny pieces for gift tags. With just a pack of blank tags or a few sheets of card stock, a hole punch, and some fabric glue, they are super easy to make! First I pinked the edges of a variety of fabrics. Then used a small paint brush to spread a bit of fabric glue on the back, focusing on the edges.
Then just center the fabrics on the cards and tags. I punched a hole in the top of the folded cards and added string. I chose to keep mine simple and just let those pretty fabrics shine. :-)
I've also been using these as little "extras" to slip into fabric orders .

Fabric Storage Basket

I've been wanting to make myself a couple of fabric storage boxes for a while now. While looking around for a pattern or tutorial that suited my needs, I found this one that I really liked by Pink Penguin. I loved the shape and easy construction of the main sections. But, as many of you know, I don't quilt yet and too many small pieces still make me nervous. LOL I also needed something a little larger. So, I altered the size and construction slightly, and I think it turned out just fine. :)
The finished size is about 13"L x 8"D x 10"H. A medium weight interfacing was used on both the exterior and lining fabrics. Then fleece was sewn to the exterior fabrics following the lines of the vines on the fabrics.I made a removable rigid foam core insert to support the bottom. And a matching linen tag holder. Now, since my friends have all become unwitting guinea pigs for my sewing projects, this storage basket went to someone with three children. That's why the tag has "TOYS" on it. When I make my own, it will likely be used for magazines, the many unfinished sewing projects, or ribbons and trim.

Sew Busy!

Well, I don't know that I've been any busier than normal, but I have been trying to get a bit more sewing done.

The first project is another one of my Sash Totes. I've made a number of these since last year, but most of them had been spoken for before they ever made it to Etsy or the website.

This one wears a sash made out of two fabrics by Heather Bailey; A small pink print on one side and a brown and blue "Pop Garden" fabric on the other.

Also made a few linen and vintage fabric pouches...

And finally, a vintage monogrammed towel gets a new lease on life as a fabric gift sack with matching tag. Paired with a denim ticking stripe, it has a rustic charm.

These are fabulous to use as a house-warming or hostess gift when filled with:

* a bottle of wine and a loaf of french bread

*a trio of tall pillar candles

*a pretty mug, flavored coffee, and biscotti

*fresh apples, favorite recipes, and glass jar filled with oatmeal crumble topping

The chances of finding vintage monograms that match our own are slim, so why not just make up a cute saying that fits the initials. This one is either "S H" or "S K". How about...Sweet Home or Suzy Homemaker...Super Kool or Special Kindness. (Hey, its late, I'm sure you could think up something more clever.) :)

Thanks for letting me share my latest projects! Have a great week, everyone!
