Sewing Party Projects

This past weekend I got together with a bunch of friends at the local library for a sewing/craft party.  We had coffee and snacks and all brought projects we wanted to work on and fabric we wanted to trade or give away.  One girl was teaching crochet techniques, another was hand sewing a doll, and several of us had our sewing machines and were finishing up half-started projects.

Here's what I accomplished that night; A little bunny wristlet and a few vintage fabric key chains.

I had cut most of the pieces for this little pouch years ago, but as with many projects, it got stuck in a drawer and forgotten.  I love this vintage children's fabric (its a 1940's Puritan Print called "Mail Time") and have used many of the cute little scenes before.  On this wristlet I used the bunny on the front and a strip with the bluebird on the back.

I also tried out some new key chain hardware.  This was just another way to use up tiny scraps of vintage fabric that I can't throw away.  I only needed about a 1.5 inch strip for these.

It was a fun and fairly productive evening.  I wish I would have remembered to take some pictures while I was there, but apparently I felt the need to defend my title as "World's Worst Blogger".  lol

Vintage 1940's Juvenile Print Fabrics

These are the cute vintage children's print fabrics that I recently found.  They are just small pieces (less than 1/2 yard) but all have their original 35/36" selvages in tact.  :)

The two larger pieces are the pink and yellow. The pink has cute pink bears and bunnies playing jump rope with a string of flowers. And the yellow is filled with happy ducks. This one has the remnants of writing on the selvage.

"...CLOTH" and at the other end of the selvage is the first letter "E..." . I've seen this dotted selvage stamp before and believe its the remnants of "EW QUADRIGA CLOTH".  The smaller blue piece also has part of this on the selvage.

This one features tiny bunnies and little toadstools or mushrooms.  And last is the kitties on pale yellow.

More Fun 70's Fabrics

After bringing home the cute 70's fabrics a few weeks ago, I couldn't stop thinking of the stacks I had left behind. So, I went back and got some more!

Most are novelty children's prints and so fun!

The red is a heavy weight canvas with calico print toadstools and turtles and the other has jade green and yellow ladybugs and butterflies and is a lovely rayon or rayon/cotton blend by J.Manes co.
And then we have some bright neon pink.

The tulip and daisy fabric is a semi-sheer dimity? And my favorite of the bunch...Fairy Tale barkcloth!

It is a light weight cotton barkcloth by THC Hawaiian Textiles. It has the cutest scenes of every fairytale and nursery rhyme I've ever heard of, plus some. Look at that adorable Alice in Wonderland square above!...and the GingerBread Man! Too cute.  :)

Vintage Novelty Fabric ~ In the Garden

Spring offically began last week (yea!), so for many of us that means gardening. I thought it would be fun to hunt through the stash and archives for some garden related vintage fabrics. Here's what I found... a variety of cute novelty prints with gardening related themes. Patio print from the 1950's. Children's fabric from the 1970-80's. Cute border print. And a couple in the "formal gardens" category; a striking black barkcloth. And a lovely scenic cotton fabric from the early 1900's. What about you, any garden themed fabrics in your sewing room?

Coming Soon ~ Lollishops

I'm sure by now, many of you have heard of Lollishops. Scheduled to open sometime around December, it is a juried site of selected shops offering a variety of girly sweet items. Advertising itself as the "Frou Frou Friendly Marketplace", categories will range from the romantic to whimsical, from the fanciful to down-right adorable.
Here at Niesz Vintage Fabrics, I'll be hanging my shingle out at Lollishops, too.
I'll be busy creating projects especially for the Lollishop buyer. Some will incorporate unique and adorable vintage children's fabrics while others will focus on romantic floral barkcloth fabrics and lush velvet accents.
And of course, I'll have some of my pretty vintage fabrics available in the shop, as well. :)

Busy Sewing and Gardening

Busy, busy, busy! May is a busy month, isn't it? Here in Ohio, May is when we get the OK to start planting our annuals. Usually, I try to get everything done by the second week, but this year its been a little cool and rainy, so I've had to hold myself back. It has been sooo hard for me not to go running out to purchase flats and flats of annuals.

So to distract myself, I've been sewing. You can see the beginning stages of a couple of projects in the above picture. The main focus is an adorable children's print fabric from the 1940's. The selvage says, "Guaranteed to Be A Puritan Print" "Mail Time". It shows scenes of bunnies, bluebirds, pigs, and dogs delivering the mail...so cute! I have only small pieces, but they're just the right size for zippered pouches. Here's a few of the finished ones on Etsy...

I've also been working on some applique projects. I'm not sure if I've thanked Katherine lately for her tutorial. Thank You, Katherine!!!
This first one is made with a vintage Indian Head cotton fabric of tossed strawberries. I've appliqued a natural linen blossom on the front.

And this one allowed me to use those small scraps of 1930's fabrics I've been drooling over for the past year. I call it "Spring Showers and Flowers". :)I hope to get my flowers in this week and then I can take some pictures of the patio and yard. Have a great week, everyone!
