Latest Vintage Fabric Finds from Indiana

Mom and I took a little trip to Indiana this past weekend.  We stayed at the lodge in Brown County State Park and ate lots of good food and did a tasting at the local winery. We also shopped the nearby antique malls and I managed to find some pretty fabrics!

In the pink floral category we have a trio of valance panels with pretty bouquets in pinks and aqua, a light weigh cotton lawn with salmon-y pink rugosa roses (or maybe cherry blossoms?), and 3 yards of a small scale print of tiny roses and gray daisies.

I also found a few red fabrics.  A cute kitchen print, a nautical themed novelty print, and several yards of a diamond geometric in red white and blue.

And last, I found a fun set of napkins with a Scandinavian type design.  I have no idea what I'll do with them, but they were just so bright and cheery I had to bring them home.  :)
I'll be getting some of the fabrics on the website today (the ones I can part with, anyway).
Its waaayyy too hot here in Ohio this week to do any work outside, so I think I'll probably start on a slipcover project I've been putting off.

Feedsacks and Fabrics from the Flea Market

It has been a whirlwind of activity around here this summer. Besides having two fairly large yards to keep maintained, we have also had a baby shower at the new house, a "Welcome to the Neighborhood" get-together thrown by our sweet new neighbors, a big yard sale, a trip to the antique flea market, and hubby has completely disassembled and sold via Craigslist our large 225 gallon saltwater aquarium that was built into the wall of the basement family room of the old house. Whew!

Anyway...back to the main subject of this post...I found some wonderful feedsacks and vintage fabrics at the flea market in Lawrenceburg a few weeks ago. A couple of fun calicos from the 1970's.

A cute red and white gingham and a kind of boho floral, also form the 60-70's.

And these gorgeous feedsacks!

This one is my favorite; pink daisies, red polka dots, and an aqua background...could it get any better? :-)

I have several projects I want to share including a painted cabinet make-over, as soon as I get some pictures taken. I am also going to need some help figuring out what to do with this living room arrangement. I'm stumped and in need of some serious Candice Olson magic.

A Front Yard Tour

I was finally able to take some pictures of the front yard. The previous owner was an avid gardener, so it has been a fun surprise this spring to see what is going to bloom next. :-)

Let's start the tour at the driveway.

See that bright orange near the house? Those are gorgeous poppies! Let's get a closer look.

In front of the steps there are also several peonies, rose bushes, different colors of columbine, and alot of things I haven't identified yet.

Near the porch, ferns, hosta, more roses, and another type of poppy fill the area.

Here is the view from the house. A nice line of trees partially hide the house from the street.

And lastly, ferns, columbine, hosta, and lily of the valley fill a shady walkway on the other side of the house.

Climbing Roses and More Patio Photos

We had a nice surprise this year with the addition of red roses to the already pink rose covered shed. Evidently, this red rose was the stock used as a graft for my Joseph's Coat rose, which died two years ago. This base rose took off last year and is now blooming very well. Oh, and a little bunny came out to have his pictured taken, too. :-) I went with a mostly red and pink theme this year for the annuals. The hanging baskets are planted with multi-colored flowers, though.

We're going to have an early taste of summer this week here in Ohio. Its supposed to be in the mid to upper 80's all week! Nice! :-)

The Roses are In Bloom!

Our little shed is once again covered in pink roses. Its a variety called New Dawn and is very hearty. Despite having killed every other rose bush I've ever touched, this one thrives. I'm sure being planted in close proximity to our compost pile helps a bit, too. ;)

The blooms are such a lovely blush pink color!It certainly helps to bring a little cottage charm to the back yard. Scenes From the Garden and Patio

I finally got some work done in the yard. It has been so cool here, that I was afraid to put my annuals in before last week. And in typical Ohio fashion, it has gone from chilly low 60's to hot and humid 80's over night. LOL This year I chose red and pink as the main colors in the hanging baskets and planters. I've accented with touches of yellow (lantana) and orange (tuberous begonias and daisies) , as well.
The baskets hang on our trellis which is covered in wisteria. And in the years we've been in the house, the trees have grown considerably...So my once very sunny patio is now shaded through a good part of the day. I rely on shade-tolerant impatients and begonias for good color throughout the summer.
Our old shed is covered in pink roses this year! This is a variety called "New Dawn". It is a hearty, disease resistant, climber that seems to thrive on my neglect. LOL You can also see a little peek of the veggie garden behind the shed. I'm afraid it got planted late, too. We probably won't being seeing any ripe tomatoes until September. haha
